Barbara Frey is a DJ, selector and music curator at Resonans Malmö, a platform for hi-fi listening sessions dedicated to the album as an art form. She started DJing more than ten years ago at open-deck nights in Berlin, but it wasn’t until moving to Sweden in 2017 that everything fell into place. Over the years, her record collection has grown into a sound that’s distinctly her own—rooted in the late 70s, but never confined by it. Beautiful productions, feeling and musicality matter more than decades or genres. Today, Barbara is a familiar face around Copenhagen and across Sweden, with occasional appearances in Germany. Her sets revolve around smooth fusion, jazz-funk and other jazz-infused and tender sounds, tied together by warmth, groove and well crafted productions. Whether she’s playing in a listening bar, a restaurant, before a live concert or at a festival, every set begins with a carefully packed record bag and a tangible red thread.
