Magzoob

Nasr, Copenhagen based Egyptian DJ and storyteller, inspired by Cairo’s Randomness, noise, high energy and its new wave of electronic music.

Magzoob, a project led by Nasr, a Copenhagen-based Egyptian storyteller that seeks non-sense and lives in between spaces, identities, realities, crises, and soundscapes. The name comes from the Arabic word "Al-Magzoub," a term from Sufi heritage, representing one who has let go of self-love and entered a state of constant ecstasy, pure connection with the spirit, and liberation to behave and get angry. These contradictions are at the core of MAGZOOB, reflected in a set traveling between drum and bass, Mahragan, Zar Sufi instruments, and electronic music, inspired by the randomness of Cairo’s soundscapes. Nasr is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice, since 2011, has moved between conflict zones, music journalism, filmmaking, sound work, and performing as a DJ. He mixes media and experiments with formats, influenced by his backgrounds.
