Party Smith
Raised in Lisbon's record shops and forged in the late 90's techno underground, Party Smith is a master of eclectic all-night psychedelic journeys. From dark basements to festival fields, peak time roof tops to after-hour chill outs, London to Goa, making music a shared language across generations.
Party Smith (VIoleta Lisboa) Violeta's background is definitely the eclecticism found in record shops. Working between 1998 and 2002 in 3 different ones she sold music to many Portuguese DJs and very naturally became one herself. Having started out in chill out rooms, she quickly speeded up her bpm to keep up with the dancing crowd in the Lisbon underground techno scene of the late 90's. She moved to London in 2003 where she kept on spinning records and organizing events for the 10 years spent there. A founding member of Soniculture in Portugal and of the infamous Vortex parties in Goa, she has played alongside names like Monolake, Miss Kittin, DJ Marcelle and Michael Mayer and at major international festivals such as the Boom, Glade, Sonica, Forte and Waking Life. As a healed vinyl junkie she bought her first synthesizer in 2010 and the live project Techno Widow was born. A new approach on melodies and textures of sound opened up her horizons and nowadays her sets are wide-ranging and uncompromised, extremely tasteful and just right for wherever they are heard. From trippy swimming pools in Sri Lanka, to dark basements in Lisbon they keep the father of the bride, the tecknival freak and the jazz trumpet player happy in the dance. In the last decade as a resident DJ of dARC in Lisbon and the Vortex in Goa, her regular multidimensional sets have become a sweat lodge for demanding connoisseurs and those who like music as a whole journey more than as a genre.
