Pre-cooked with love, served hot from Copenhagen.

Radio Panini is a community radio rooted in Copenhagen nightlife. Every Friday and Saturday we broadcast live from Jolene, in Kødbyen. But we dream bigger than one room: we want to help make Copenhagen a world-class creative and music hub, a city that creatives everywhere look to, and talk to.

So we’ve opened the kitchen. Meet To-Go: shows made by artists all over the world, wherever they are, and served on Radio Panini. Music from all over, filtered through the ears of the best in our scene.

What is To-Go?

You cook a mix, one, two or three hours long, in your bedroom, your studio, on a rooftop at home. We agree a date and play it on the radio, and afterwards it lives in our archive. On our schedule you appear as Pre-cooked with love by you, with your city next to your name.

It’s audio only, online and not at Jolene.

Copenhagen, meet the world

Radio Panini started as one little room in Kødbyen. We have always said we want to create culture, not just consume it, and culture doesn’t stop at the city limits.

To-Go connects the community we’ve built in Copenhagen with communities abroad: DJs, musicians, collectives, promoters and makers in other cities who care about the same things we do. Copenhagen gets to hear what is cooking anywhere from the next neighbourhood to the other side of the planet. Artists far away get a proper place in our community: your own artist page, an archive that stays, and a spot in our schedule next to the live shows from Jolene.

And for local creatives, it’s a door. Someone hears someone, someone writes a message, and a friendship, a collaboration or a booking follows. That is how scenes grow, and how we’d like Copenhagen’s to keep growing: with the doors open.

How it works

  1. Apply. Tell us who you are and where you are, how long your show is, and send us one or more mixes that give us a feel for your sound. Apply for To-Go.
  2. We agree a date. If we’d love to play you, we’ll find a date together and show you the time in your own time zone.
  3. Send your mix. You get a private page, no account needed, to upload your mix at least five days before it airs: an MP3, a square cover image, a short description and a few genres.
  4. It goes on air. Then it lives in our archive and on SoundCloud, with your own artist page on radiopanini.com.

Who is To-Go for?

Anyone with sound worth sharing: DJs, collectors, producers, selectors, musicians, hosts with a show of their own. A one-off, or a show that comes back every month; tell us which. And yes, if you live in Copenhagen you can play To-Go too.

You don’t have to be a DJ, and it doesn’t have to be for the dancefloor. We love those mixes, and we are very happy to get everything else too: a live set recorded at home, ambient and experimental, jazz and folk, a listening session, field recordings, the records you actually play on a quiet Sunday, a collection told in your own voice. Our nights are for dancing; our days are for listening, and the radio has room for both.

If a mix has ever made a room move, laugh or go quiet, we want to hear it.

Tips for a good To-Go mix

  • Export an MP3, 320 kbps if you can.
  • Land close to the length you agreed with us: a one-hour show is around 58 to 61 minutes.
  • Quiet is welcome, dead air isn’t. Our upload check flags long stretches of pure silence, so if yours are on purpose, tell us when you apply.
  • Add a few words about what is in it, and a tracklist if you like. The story behind a mix is half the fun.

Cook with us: become a To-Go curator

To-Go is music from all over the world, filtered through the ears of Copenhagen’s scene. That is how we keep our mission alive: a community radio rooted in this city that listens to the world together with the people who make our scene what it is. So our curators are from Copenhagen too.

We are slowly reaching out to local collectives, promoters, bookers and DJs to help us curate To-Go through their own lens and experience: people who live this city’s music and know who we should be hearing, and why. Curators bring in artists they believe in, so that what you hear on To-Go carries many fingerprints, not just ours.

If you are based in Copenhagen and that sounds like you, we’d love your help. Write to radio@radiopanini.com with the subject To-Go Program Curation Application and tell us:

  • why you want to help us build the program,
  • who you would like to invite to our airwaves,
  • and your experience: the nights, collectives, labels, shows or stages you have been part of.

We read every message. Curators are based in Copenhagen; if you are somewhere else, we’d love to hear your show instead: apply for To-Go.

Good to know

Is it live? No. You record it in your own time and we play it at the time we agree. It’s audio only: no video, and not at Jolene.

Does it have to be a DJ mix? Not at all. Live sets, ambient, experimental, jazz, folk, field recordings, listening sessions: if it’s good sound with a point of view, we’d love to hear it.

Do I keep my rights? Yes, your mix stays yours. When you hand it in, you give us permission to broadcast it and to archive it on our website and SoundCloud. You’ll see the small print on your private page before anything goes public.

Can I play To-Go if I live in Copenhagen? Of course. To-Go is for anyone who’d like to play from where they are.

How long should my show be? One, two or three hours, whatever length we agree. Not sure yet? Say so when you apply.

What do I need to send? To apply, send us one mix, or a few, that sound like what you’d like to play on the radio, or that simply give us a good idea of your sound and skill (links from SoundCloud, Mixcloud, YouTube…). It doesn’t have to be the mix you want to air, but it can be. If we say yes, we’ll ask for the MP3, a cover image and a few words about your show.

I run a collective, a night or a label in Copenhagen. Can I help? Yes, please. See “Cook with us” above and write to radio@radiopanini.com.
